Hi -

Was wondering if anyone can weigh in with their thoughts. My husband and I are moving to Cleveland/Akron, Ohio from northern New Jersey. We have zeroed in on Hudson for a variety of reasons (most importantly proximity of my husband's job, proximity to family and schools) and are now trying to narrow down where in Hudson we'd like to live.

We really want to live in a friendly neighborhood where we will get to know our neighbors and be part of a community. Does anyone have any suggestions for specific neighborhoods or areas that are particularly friendly/social? Just to give some context, on the street where we currently live families host a neighborhood happy hour every Friday in the summer, kids play in the street, we have a block party every September, etc. Every time we step outside we see our friends and neighbors, and we love being part of a community. I worry that in Hudson we might get lost in a subdivision and never see our neighbors. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Thanks!

In Hudson you really have to go visit each neighborhood to get a feel for the atmosphere. The historic district in the center of town has a more quaint feel and closer proximity to things that go on whereas most of the subdivisions are quieter and similar in feel to one another. There are some subdivisions that are closer to the downtown area that seem to have more of a social atmosphere than those that are further out. Crown colony is popular because the homes are spacious and yet adjacent to the school campus where kids can quickly get to school and community activities and parks. However, you need to look around and see what feels comfortable since there are so many neighborhoods to chose from in Hudson. Some are better for one with small children where people stick together, and others are better for more established families. I grew up there and I knew my neighbors pretty well in a subdivision which was in the southern end of town, and we always wished we were closer to the schools and downtown, especially the historic district. Fox Trace is a nice neighborhood with newer more unique homes that is in the historic district, however the prices are a bit higher than average.

Hudson, in general, is a fantastic place. It's one of the costlier places around the area to live in, but it has just about everything one would need for day-to-day living within the town limits.
