Do you think that Cleveland's luck is changing for the better? As a Cleveland Native who loves his city very much it seems to me the luck is changing for the better. For one the sports teams are all starting to do good again. The Cavs made it to the championship with a record of 50-32,the Indians are going to the playoffs with a record of 96-66 and with C.C. and Carmona we have a really good chance to go all the way this year. The Browns are starting to play well too.In the last three games they've given themselves a chance to win every game.Really they should be 3-1 and tied for 1st place in the division, unfortunatly the field goal was blocked at the end of the game against Oakland. Also violent crime is down in Cleveland this year which is good, the only violent crime that is up is homicide so hopefully that will start decreasing too. This isn't a huge accomplishment but Cleveland is no longer the poorest city,it fell to fourth, hopefully the poverty rate will continue to decrease.Cleveland does have some rough neighborhoods, more rough than low crime neighborhoods,so hopefully the rough neighborhoods will start to make a change,I really hope they do.Cleveland still has its problems as all Clevelanders know, and they won't be able to be automatically decreased, but In say 15 years maybe Cleveland will be a hotspot again, probably not like it was in the '50s,but at least to the point where most of the neighborhoods are nice, and people are actually moving into the city.Another good point is the school districts rating went from Academic Watch to Continuous Improvement,so thats another good note. What do you think fellow Cleveland natives do you think the luck of Cleveland is finally changing for the better.

I hope Clevelands luck does change, although Im not sure if it will at this point. The Cavs and the Indians are doing great, and the browns are improving to average. The Euclid Corridor Project is supposed to bring like 3,000 jobs to Cleveland, which is good. If Cleveland is all of a sudden the place to be again I just hope it doesnt turn into a place like Atlanta, Phoenix, Miami, Los Angeles or any other places like that. There is no sense of Community left in those areas, and the cost of living is so high and the houses cost so much, even in Chicago.

I don't know. Born & raised there. Seen lots of the good & bad. Remember when the Flats were the place to go & now, again, they are dumpy. Have heard about revitalizition programs so many times I can't remember.
That being said, I've been away for many years & lived in many places.
Gotta say, can't find a better place to call home than Cleveland. And we are finally in a position to move back.

The crime issue has got to be tackled but that crime comes with baggage, & that baggage has got to be thrown out. It will take a long time.

But, there are SO many places to live in what people call "Cleveland". If one wants to be part of the crime & drugs, they can find it. If not, there are many suburbs that have decent schools, low crime, & well priced homes. The Art Museum, the Natural History Museum, the science center, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the orchestra, the private & public colleges, The Metro Parks, the sports teams...I mean really, believe me, there is a lot to do & see in the city & surrounding suburbs.

It's not nirvana by any means nor will it ever be. I just think it is a nice place to call home after all the places we have lived.

No I dont, and Im getting out of here asap. I'm over the poverty, the weather, the mindsets, etc. Dont get me wrong, if I ever hit it big, I would buy a huge house in the burbs (one of those houses that would cost like 1.5 million anywhere else in the country) so I can come back and visit the fam in the summer...but other than that Cleveland is a wrap for me.

Cleveland's luck is still the same. I didn't see the city get any better when the Indians were in the World Series back in 1995. Its the whole mind set of the people that live in Cleveland thats got to change. Once people start to stand up and take care of their neighborhoods, then everything will change. As for the Euclid Corridor project and things like that, time will tell how that goes.

Default I don't mind sports but...

To base the hopes on a city by sports upfront is laughable at best. It should be near the lower middle of importance in getting a city back on it's feet. Cleveland would have been better off on building ONE sports complex with a sliding roof for football, baseball and whatever indoor activities can be had. Year round multi-use under one roof instead of these hulks that sit empty longer than the season...what a waste. I do miss going to the Akron Aeros games. I lived within walking distance of that place.

Living in New Mexico now there is no major sports teams here. College level and minor leagues. There is a lot more here to do outside rather than sit and watch the tube...and I don't miss the weather in NE Ohio!

One more: Does Mike Trivisanno still pine for Lakefront casinos?

He was the last I heard. What a bloated ass

I agree about the sports take. I like pro sports a lot. I still keep up with the Cleveland teams when I can, but Clevelanders put way too much emphasis on the fortunes of those teams. As if winning a major championship will suddenly lift the city out of it's own dirty diaper. It will not.

But having said that, winning a sports title would do WONDERS for the psyche and confidence of the community at large and that, is the most important point. Change starts with the People.

So, go Tribe, Cavs and Browns

p.s. That stadium should never have been built on the lake. What an ignorant gaffe. And for Gawd's sake, get rid of that damn private airport!!!!!!!! It's the most important piece of real estate in Downtown.
