It's lake-effect snow.

And it's beautiful.

I don't really think there is a benefit.
Lake Effect Snow brings more snow to this area then we would otherwise get without a big lake to our north.
Fort Wayne, Indiana will get an inch of snow and we will get a foot from the same storm.
Once the lake freezes over, it stops.

It's just snow. The fact that it's "lake effect" just means it's happening for a different reason than in other places where it snows.

If you like doing snow sculpture, there is. That's nice packing snow. Although it melts right quick.

Negatives: You can be driving and be in clear conditions, and all of a sudden, come into a terrible snow squall w/ 0 visibility.
It's generally a wetter heavier snow, which tends to be more slick if you ask me.
It's hard to predict because if you are under a slow moving very heavy band, you can get buried very quickly.

Positives: only if you like a lot of snow, and a lot of shoveling/plowing, or making snowmen, or snow skiing.

On just about every Michigan road it fills in the potholes. Could say the same for some in my neighborhood too.

Negatives: Gray skies all winter long, freeze thaw makes for slush and makes it hard to do outdoor sports consistently
Positives: Snow is beautiful, when it sticks you can do outdoor sports such as X country skiing, downhill skiing, sledding.

The skiing can be pretty fantastic after a fresh snow. There is a calmness and serenity about seeing a world covered in snow.

But for all practical purposes there is nothing positive about getting so much snow. Trying to navigate the holes in the roads after the spring thaw and before summer construction season isn't much fun either.

There is more benefit to getting 60" of snow per season than there is to having 90 days of 100+ degree temperatures. Snow is frozen fresh water which packs the topsoil, captures organic residuals, and slowly replenishes the groundwater supply as it gradually melts. Snow is part of the reason why northern ohio has some of the best farmland in the world.
