This is a two part post because we will be taking two different routes. Our total travel will be from October 28- November 22.

So my boyfriend and i are planning on taking I 80 from Cleveland to San Francisco in late October to early November. We plan on arriving in San Francisco by November 5. Along the way, we will pass/stop at Des Moines, Omaha, Cheyenne and Salt Lake City.

Our biggest concern is bad weather, especially for mountain driving. As a native of Miami, FL and a new resident of Ohio, my experience with winter weather (and mountain driving) is pretty limited. Can anyone tell me what weather is usually like during this time period? I have read other posts about route 80 and am finding that Wyoming winter driving will be the biggest challenge. Most posts have discussed February- May weather but have not seen much for late fall. I'll take any advice!

Our return route will be San Fran to LA (route 5,) LA to Vegas and Grand Canyon (route 15,) Grand Canyon to Denver to St. Louis and then to Cleveland (route 70.) My biggest concern for the return is driving through Colorado and Missouri. How is the weather/driving in these parts? This part of the trip will span approximately November 9- November 22.

Help? My bf and I are graduating this Spring and so this is our celebratory trip! We will take any advice!!

Hard to say about the mountains/snow in that timeframe. I wouldn't expect it to be too bad though.

Just out of curiousity, what's your budget for the trip and what kind of car are you driving?

L2DB, I don't think they'll hit a lot of snow around that time of year either.

Don't forget Sedona -- 30 or 60 minutes from The Grand Canyon. In fact, stay the night in Sedona (pricey) or in Williams and make the Sunrise Tour at The Canyon. You'll probably freeze your behinds off, BUT -- you don't want to miss Sedona and The Sunrise Tour.
