Besides Daves, Cleveland Clinic, and Cleveland Heights proximity -- a few other highlights include:

- Nighttown (best jazz is Cleveland) -- Home - Nighttown
- Cedar-Fairmount Summer Festival -- Cedar Fairmount SID Summer Festival - Cedar Fairmount Special Improvement District

And of course, neighboring University Circle:

- FREE Cleveland Museum of Art
- Little Italy (Presti's Bakery is a must!)
- Cleveland Orchestra
- Botanical Gardens
- Lakeview Cemetery (seriously. check it out!)
- Festivals (from wiki)

Hessler Street Fair (May)
Parade the Circle (Jun)
Summer Solstice Party (Cleveland Museum of Art) (Jun)
International Folk Festival (Jun)
WOW! Wade Oval Wednesdays (Jun-Aug)
Feast of the Assumption (August 15 weekend)
Showcase in the Circle and Home Tour (Sep)
Cleveland's RIPE! Fest (Botanical Garden) (Sep)
Little Italy Columbus Day Parade (Oct)
Holiday CircleFest (Dec)
It's official. I have the apartment. I will be bringing this list to my friend. She actually has suggested some of these events and places already. On a more serious note, the fact that it is walking distance from Dave's and a quick bus ride to the Cleveland Clinic really racks up the points.

And I love cemetery tours. I live near one that has an historic history with some really beautiful headstones.
I did a paper on them once for a course I took in college.

I will be in your city tomorrow doing some apartment hunting. My friend who lives in Cleveland Heights will be taking me around to do the search. She was brought up on the west side of the city so she knows that area as well. She has owned her own home in Cleveland Heights for over thirty years and so is not familiar with renting so I thought I would ask for some advice here.

A little about what I am looking for to get started. First of all, I am past the twenty-something stage. Long past. I am 68 so I am not looking for the night life and all of that. However, I'm not dead yet so I don't want to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere either. I would like to be near my friend and some entertainment like concerts, plays, nice restaurants (not too nice, I am on a fixed income) and a festival of some sort every now and then.

The important stuff is being near public transportation and a supermarket since I do not drive. I would not rule out an over 55 community but it would just depend upon the neighborhood. I also would like to be wherever I could get to the Cleveland Clinic easily because I will be taking my old bones there from time to time. I don't have to be close, just on a bus or light rail route that would take me there.

If someone knows of apartment management companies to contact or to stay away from or of any places in particular they could recommend please do so. Neighborhood recommendations would be welcome too.

So while I am visiting my friend, I will be checking my email. Thanks to anyone who comes up with any advice.

Welcome

Downtown Cleveland has some 15k-20k now young professionals from all over the US and world. You'll meet people from everywhere.

I'd look into Downtown, Lakewood, Ohio City, Tremont, and Cleveland Hts. Although, Cleveland Hts needs a lot of work from the city to regain control of the youth. Still an awesome area, but a bit seedy in areas.

For what I like to do, Downtown area (inc. OC and Tremont) & Lakewood give me the most accessible ways to the Lake (beach, boating, concerts, events, etc), restaurants, West Sode Market (go weekly) and nightlife (w.25th with multiple beer oriented places, E.4th, Tremont, etc)
