I am a 27 y/o recently moved to Cleveland and I think it's probably time to invest in a house instead of renting. I work near the airport, so right now I am renting in North Olmsted. But housing and tax there are expensive! I am for a monthly payment roughly what I would be if I were to rent ($700). Since I don't have a family yet, this is more of an investment. I am planning to rent the extra rooms out to interns at my company.

So after looking, I found a pretty nice house in western Puritas-Longmead. Right between Kamm's Corner and Brookpark west of W 150th street. Around wear the shipping companies are at. The neighborhood seems to be quiet and people are taking care of their houses.

However, I read online that Purias - Longmead got a bad crime rating.

Just wondering if you guys can shine some light about this area.
I also saw that the property price went up ~13% last year and is projecting a ~5% year increase.
So not really sure why that is...

The east end of Puritas-Longmead near W 130th is a bit sketchy. However, the area you are considering buying in is pretty safe. I don't live in this neighborhood, but I own a rental property west of W 150th street.

I recommend you enter the home's address on Trulia and view their crime map.

That area is pretty decent actually. The further east you go from W150, the worse and worse it gets though, so just keep that in mind. As the poster above mentioned, the area directly around W130 and especially Bellaire are pretty bad, however you probably won't really ever encounter those parts. You might get some noise issues (loud cars, motorcycles, subwoofers, horns, etc.), but you can't really escape that kind of stuff anywhere in Cleveland. Crime wise, maybe a few petty crimes such as vandalism or burglaries, but nothing too serious.

Thanks for the input guys, now I feel better about buying in that area haha.
I was told to stay in Fairview Park, but the tax is so expensive there!

Yes, Fairview Park is a much nicer area and the higher taxes reflect that!

I'm only somewhat familiar with the area, having passed through it a couple time fairly recently... West of W. 150 along Puritas to and past Rocky River Drive seems pretty solid. It's a mile or so from the airport with great freeway access (I-480 and 71) and the Red Line Rapid station off W. 150 north of Puritas (called "Puritas station"). Lots of retail and food stores in the area along with a few decent hotels, like the Marriott right off I-71 at W. 150th...

... It's a solid Cleveland neighborhood. It may not be Edgewater, Tremont or Ohio City, but it's comfortable, low cost and convenient... you could do a lot worse.
