Hi,
I am a 50 yo woman who has sold my half of a business and now I work part-time from home. I am recently divorced and have sold my home, but I really don't want to buy another home. It seems that I am at a point in my life that I don't want to be bogged down by the material things in life, such as owning a home or even a car. I am thinking of renting a 2 br apartment at Mayfaire. I figure that I will be within walking distance of everything I need... grocery stores, craft stores, my favorite restaurant, movie theatre and best of all Barnes & Noble. And if occasionaly I do need a car, I can just rent one.
Now I am just collecting opinions, but do you think that the money I save by not owning a car and it's expenses, no homeowners dues, insurance, yard care, maintenance and all that go with owning a home will offset the cost of an apartment @ Mayfaire?
thanks for the feedback.

Hmmm. I was thinking about the various times I need a car -- to go to the doctor, to pick up mail, to meet friends, various errands, to go to the beach, to go fishing. Mayfaire is nice but for me I think I might go nuts if I couldn't go other places. This is personal for you though -- even if you save money is Mayfaire enough to be your whole world most of time time? If you don't need/want to stay in Wilmington there are cities where urban living offers enough I really do think a car would be unnecessary, but it all depends on the person.

If I were to live car free, I don't think I'd choose Wilmington as my city. I guess I'd want a bigger city.

However, Wilmington does have some public transportation. Here's a map of Wilmington's Wave Transit routes, and as you can see, the red line does service Mayfaire.
