My family is investigating the area for relocation. We are trying to determine the best place to live in the Wilmington area. We have visited the area and thought it was beautiful. We have a child and are concerned about the schools/crime. Any information would be much appreciated. Any thoughts on Boiling Spring Lakes/Southport? Also, I am a CPA - what are the job opportunities like? Thanks.

I think that it would be a GREAT idea to move to this area. The area I would recommend is Leland, right across the river. This area has great schools, and many job opportunities open. Being that this area is rapidly growing right now, I think that you all will have the upper hand.

We moved here to Wilmington 4 years ago from the midwest. We love the Monkey Junction area. Our son is grown but the high school here is Ashley High and a very nice school, we have been there for functions. We don't know alot about the elementary schools, but this is to us the better part of Wilmington. Stay away from downtown as there is crime as in any city. However, during the day, downtown Wilmington is beautiful and very historical. As far as jobs, being from the midwest, the pay is not that great here, but like anywhere, it depends on where/what Company you go to. You really can't beat the beauty of the ocean/beaches here. As far as NC as a whole we found it has everything, Mountains, Ocean, Lakes, Country, etc. A good website is visitnc.com. Hope we helped!

The OP probably moved to Wilmington before you did since they wrote that 4 1/2 years ago.
