Hi guys

I'm an avid lap swimmer and will be moving to Jacksonville in the next few months. Could someone tell me if there's any olympic size swimming pool in the area (indoor and outdoor pools)? I saw at least 4 large pools online but they are MCCS pools and I think they are exclusive for marines/employees and their family (not sure )

Thanks in advance!

I have also researched swimming. I believe there is no Olympic-sized pool in Jacksonville that is open to the public. Onslow Fitness has an indoor pool, but it is small. It may be too warm for a serious swimmer.

However, the Cape Carteret Aquatic Center has an indoor pool, about 24 miles from the center of Jacksonville. It looks to be Olympic-sized.

Then, the Coastal Fitness Center in Hampstead has a good indoor pool. It is about 29 miles from the center of Jacksonville. I believe it is also Olympic-sized.

You might also look at the Twin Rivers YMCA in New Bern. It is about 36 miles to Jacksonville.

The options are not great, but if your choose a place to live closer to swimming, you might be satisfied.

For outdoor pools, check the Jacksonville Country Club. They have adult swim times.

Many communities have outdoor pools, but they are usually for kids to play in. Unless they reserve lap lanes, they are useless for serious swimming.

@goldenage1 Thank you for the response! I would check these ones. I did call MCCS and unfortunately, all their olympic size pools are not open to the public. They told me about Courts Plus Fitness Center. Called them and they did tell me they have an outdoor and indoor pool (length of 75 ft so large enough and works for me!) The country club is a good option too but it's only open from late May to September.
