I am driving from Boston MASS to Florida Thursday morning and need to take alternate route due to Hurricane Florence's wake. 95 is closed in NC. They recommend either I 81 and pickup 95 in SC or take 95 into NC, to 64W to 540W, to I40W to 321S to 85S and then follow directions to pick 95 back up in SC. Which route will take the least amount of time?

Use Google maps. Those of us in coastal NC have our hands full right now, ya know?

I'm sure a lot of N-S traffic has been diverted to I-85 thru VA and NC...you could join that traffic nightmare.

I wouldn't go anywhere near I-95 in NC right now. Even without that, I'd still avoid I-95 through the NYC-DC corridor. Just take I-90 -> I-84 -> I-81 -> I-77 -> I-26 -> I-95 and enjoy the I-81 scenery.

Avoiding NC altogether is the best guidance as offered by the NCDOT. Routing around NC through VA via 81, then somehow through GA and back towards the East Coast. I95 is a total mess, rivers have not crested yet, it will take days.

Here you go, especially from I-81 onward...

Don't go on I-95 or anywhere east of it. I-85 through Greensboro to Charlotte to I-77 to Columbia SC would probably work, but the I-81 route allows you to avoid DC traffic which is always a plus in my book.

For current road conditions in NC check https://tims.ncdot.gov/tims/

I've done this a ton, and NEVER take 95 once outside of Boston. Way better drive, less traffic, more to see, stopping is easier, albeit about 2-3 hours longer a drive, but with the way 95 and all those areas are likely to be, this is going to be WAY faster

95 to 495 to 84 through Hartford (do this early or after 6pm if possible) to 380 (Scanton, PA) to 81 to (at Fort Chriswell area) 77 to 26 to 95 outside of Santee and if you want to go further south before getting on 95 take 321 Hardeeville, then get on 95

We were heading east yesterday, but it seemed a lot were taking I-95 to US 64 to Raleigh, then I-540 around Raleigh to I-85/40, then I-85 at Greensboro.

Both Charlotte and Raleigh traffic can be bad. I am not sure where people were getting back over to I-95.

Good luck.
