IMO, Lidl is more upscale than Aldi with in store bakery and a large wine selection. I have been to Kingston; Rocky Mount and Danville and those are depressed areas; no offense to the residents. I could never understand why Lidl would open stores in those towns.

We were supposed to get a Lidl in Mooresville NC and after doing site prep work, quite a bit actually, they pulled the plug. We're definitely not a depressed market and (unfortunately) continue to grow like crazy. The location was not near Walmart and Aldi is on the other side of town. Seemed like a great location in terms of no competition right across the road.

Not sure who does their real estate side but they aren't impressive based on this thread.

Lidl's entry into the US can be summed up in two words: Leeroy Jenkins.

"Leeroy Jenkins is gaming slang for a person or thing that causes everything to go wrong for everyone else, usually in some extraordinary fashion."

They definitely have fubar'ed it I would say. Unfortunate as I went into their location in Rockingham and really liked it. Was looking forward to one opening up nearby as a middle of the road option as we've got Publix, Harris Teeter, Lowe's Foods on the pricier side and then Aldi, Food Lion on the cheaper side, along with the WalMart Neighborhood Market. Lidl seemed to fit nicely in the middle of those.

You might be confusing Trader Joes and Aldi? Do a quick Internet search and you will find the below information.

Lidl corporate ownership is a German company
Dieter Schwarz's Schwarz Group

Aldi corporate ownership is a German company called Albrecht Discounts.

As long as they don't close the store in Greenville, my wife is good. Lidl is on her regular rotation of grocery stores to shop at. She shops at Lidl, Harris Teeter, Food Lion, and Walmart.
