Yes, I was responding to the OP asking about beaches that are not like Ocean City MARYLAND, but we don't have any like Ocean City NJ either so my post works either way.
But Ocean City, Maryland has Thrasher’s French Fries! I lived on the Eastern Shore of MD for 7 years and spent quite a bit of time in OC back in the 1980’s. It’s really changed and I agree, it’s a lot like Myrtle Beach these days.
Oak Island is great place for families. There is no boardwalk but the beach is never overly crowded, there’s min golf, lots of restaurants, ice cream shops etc. There’s a great splash pad for younger children at Middleton Park. You can also take the ferry from Southport to Fort Fisher and go to the aquarium. Full disclosure, there are no lifeguards on the beach.
Go to the obx.
Rodanthe, waves, salvo.
Do stay within 1 mile of DQ or Villiage Conery . You will see many family’s riding golf carts and bicycles here. Family friendly down there.
Or travel all the way down to the town Of Hatteras. Stay near the ocracoke ferry. Ice cream shops, food, exploring right near you. Plus the ferry to ocracoke for a day trip.
Ocracoke beaches usually rated in top 10 US beaches.
Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo are nothing like what the OP said he/she is looking for.
