News services report that the popular restaurant has been destroyed by fire. Does anyone local know if they will rebuild?

The Hardee Family hasn't said what they will do (I'm sure they are processing, grieving etc). This has been a family business since 1950 when Lawrence and Ella High opened the tiny fish camp and began selling their catch to the neighbours. Their daughter Sheryl Hardee took over in 1980 and her family has run it ever since. The restaurant is very popular so the hope is that they will rebuild.

Its been tough for Calabash as Tonys (on the same little street) burned last November.

Shaun Bellamy, the daughter of Sheryl Hardee said today that they will rebuild. She said this was all they have ever known so they are waiting to find out the cause of the fire and will begin the process of rebuilding.
The family will have the support of this loyal community.

I am afraid they will find old wiring in a hot kitchen with oil-filled fryers was a disaster waiting to happen.

What a loss to the community in Calabash. We always went to Ella's for a steam pot or their broiled plates, so good. My son even has a Ella's tshirt. lol

Glad to hear they are going to rebuild it though, as soon as I saw on FB that it was on fire my thought went to I bet they pack it up and don't rebuild. Glad I was wrong!
Now to find a comparable replacement nearby in the mean time.

Becks restaurant on the same road is pretty similar in that it serves Calabash Style seafood. Some of the staff from Ellas have been hired by Becks. There is also the Boundary House, Waterfront Seafood Shack and Dockside.

Yeah Boundary House is good but nothing like Ella's. Like Waterfront but it's been hard for us to get into. Will give the others a shot though, glad to hear Becks has many of the former Ella's employees on staff now, good for them.
