We have been looking at the New Bern area, but friends have mentioned that the Calabash/Shallotte area is a real nice area.

Just wondering how the area is overall for retirement? How is medical care?

Thank you,....marc

I live in Coastal NC and if I had my druthers, I'd go to Calabash/
Shallotte...so quaint and just a hop, skip and jump to Myrtle Beach

I have been here two yrs retired from up north. We like it alot no snow yet.Lots of year round golf. Health care is good depending on your medical insurance. Willmington has some excellent specialist.Myrtle Beach is just down the road for your shopping& restaurants

We have dear friends who are in Sandpiper Bay at Sunset Beach......Calabash is 2 miles south, Ocean Isle is 2 miles north. We visit them 3 times a year with our 4 small children. They go to dentist right in Calabash and their physicians are in Myrtle Beach area. You can't beat the area as far as quaint, quiet, friendly and most of all relaxing. We love it there and if there were more children around and the school system were better suited to our needs, would probably move there ourselves!
