Searching for a gag gift and hoping that posting in this section will yield some results. I'm looking for one of those cash registers that used to be in department stores. They were off white/beige in color and had deep buttons. If memory serves, they were in stores between the 80s and at the latest early 2000s.
Any leads (if only the make and model) would be greatly appreciated!
J.C. Penney's had them IIRC. They were swallowed up by NSAT&T in the early 90s then spit back out a few years later.
There was (still is) also the IBM SurePOS series: https://picclick.com/IBM-SurePOS-700-Cash-Register-163684224792.html
If you get an early 2000s model (of really anything) you will want to pop it open before you spend a penny and inspect the condition of the electrolytic capacitors on the motherboard since that period was kind of the peak of the "capacitor plague" era. If you see bulgy capacitors or crusty brown crap on the motherboard (and power supply board) around them, say "no thanks" and walk away.
