We are beginning the process of looking at schools and finding out who has interest in my son for football. would be interested in anyone elses experience with this, any advice or input. thanks
He will be more than happy to get all teh NCAA CLearinghouse paperwork done up, tapes sent off to schools, et al.
Do NOT have your son be the next Kevin Hart. You know, that kid from Fernley, NV who staged his selection party between Cal and Oregon, yet his coach let it go on despite never being contacted by any of those schools coaches...
I agree, work with the coach. They know how to do this.
And try to keep your son focused on what he's really after: a college education, since very, very few players actually go on to the pros.
There are many schools out there that aren't Div. I that have money for scholarships, including NAIA Schools. Don't overlook those. Those may be a better fit for him as a player and a person.
Thanks for the responses, unfortunately my sons coach is not real proactive, we still have 2 years, and my son has already started sending letters to college coaches just to get himself on the radar. He has gotten some good feedback as far as what he needs to do and what coaches will be looking at as he gets closer to graduation.
Make sure you've got a copy of the NCAA's book on college-bound atheletes NCAA Publication Product Detail View
and pay careful attention to the rules and regulations regarding contacts with coaches, if he wants to play for an NCAA school. It is very easy to screw up eligibility.
