I finished undergrad about 8 years ago with a poli sci background and in my first job I made about 35k but worked like a dog. I'm doing much better now and earning almost twice what I started out with, but I HATE the job. I'm actually willing to take a MAJOR pay cut just to get out of it. Point being, money isn't everything and you'll soon learn that after you work a few full time positions. It's a careful balancing act of financial security and maintaining your own sanity.

Supposedly the major I wanna get has a median starting salary of around 50-60K. That sounds generous so I'll shoot for 45-50. If it's higher, awesome, if it's that, ok, if it's lower, eegh.

I make around 50k now and am graduating with a BA in Accounting in December. I have no clue what will happen after graduation, but more money or a more flexible job would be great.

In NYC? 50k on average; close to 100k if I were blessed with a well-connected father.

10 years ago, my first job out of college (Biochemistry/English Lit degree) was for $22,000. I lived at home for the first year, then moved in with my significant other. 1 year after that we got a house, but it helped that he is a few years older than me, made more money, and we bought the house from family. (it also helped that I wasn't making 22,000 any more). These days, the entry salary for that same job is anywhere from $28,000 to $34,000 depending on amount of experience.

I expected $50k+, started at $60k+. I graduated in 2010 with a computing degree, but had 3 internship/co-op experiences prior to graduation.

If someone has no work experience, what should they expect?

In this economy, many people are having to settle for lower paying jobs not related to their majors. This recession in my opinion is the "Educated's Recession", meaning it is affecting white collar jobs more-so than skilled labor.
