Does anyone know how does Brigham Young University-Hawaii plays in Ncaa? They have to travel around 8 hours to go to other states of the United States, do they trave, play and travel back to Hawaii at the same day or do they spend some days on the states that they are going to play? Isn´t that routine expensive?

Thanks in advance

1) It's a private school. If they want to be in the NCAA and the NCAA admits them, what is it to anyone?

2) Travel costs are rolled into their athletic budget. The NCAA doesn't give them any travel money. In fact, there are a number of costs for being in the NCAA that need to be included in the athletic budget as well.

3) The nice tourists who go to the Polynesian Cultural Center help pay for it as that center is a non-profit that is owned by the nice folks at BYU-Hawaii. Seems to me, they don't suffer for funding.

I don't understand your question. Their schedule is posted on-line and they travel like every other team except their team bus is a plane.

They also get a ton of money from TV rights (as well as other sources).

University of Hawaii-Manoa travels the same.

The good taxpayers of Hawaii and the Rainbow Warriers paying tuition fund the travel expenses.

The NCAA is the National Collegiate Athletic Association. It is an association of schools to play sports against each other. There are some competitors - NAIA is the big one. NCAA has 1281 members. NAIA has ~250.

So, to answer your question, How does BYU-Hawaii play in the NCAA? By becoming a member of the NCAA.

The real question you should have asked is why does the school participate in the NCAA? The answer is, more than likely, student driven. There was a demand for interscholastic sporting at the campus, so they had to join an association to play other schools. Depending on the sports they wished to play, AND who they wished to play, their choices were limited. In fact, BYU-H was one of the founding members of the Pacific West NCAA Division 2 conference. If they didn't join the NCAA, they'd have to leave Hawaii to play anyone. As it is, the Pac West conference has 4 teams in Hawaii - BYU-H, Chaminade, U Hawaii-Hilo, and Hawaii Pacific.

Yes. But, there are 4 other colleges in Hawaii to play too. What about Alaska schools? UA-Anchorage used to be in the CCHA. The Central Collegiate Hockey Association, with Michigan, Michigan State, NIU, Michigan Tech, and Lake Superior State. UM-MSU is a 2 hour drive. UM-UAA is a 12+ hour flight...

That would be silly... But if you really want to know, call them: (808) 675-3764

Compared to what? Tuition? Nope. A Car? Nope. Driving down the street? Yep.
