I am considering returning to graduate school with a putative start date in 2017; so far I'm considering Carnegie Mellon and UIUC because they're known quantities for autistic students.
Oh I am still considering Notre Dame (alongside UIUC and Carnegie Mellon because of the physics research being made) but they don't seem to be that great for dealing with autistic students (undergraduate or graduate). UPenn and UChicago I'm still considering them for scientific reasons but I'm not sold on how good they are with autistic students.
On the other hand I'm often told about how experienced MIT and Caltech are with autistic students, undergraduate or graduate, but I'm not sure about how true that is. It seems that most names I hear about when it comes to who can best deal with autistic students have some computer science or engineering renown...
Anyone who knew an autistic graduate student knows that the needs of autistic students don't simply go away at graduation (from undergrad). But some universities that may be good fits for autistic students at the undergraduate level may not be so great for graduate students, even if said student could otherwise find a good scientific fit there (I kind of think of Rutgers as a school meeting the last description) If there are autistic graduate students here, or parents thereof, willing to speak as to whether disability services have been good for autistic graduate students, and what to look for, please do.
