I'll be transferring from UCCS (colorado springs) to Long Island and I'm wondering if the education quality at Old Westbury is on par with other SUNY schools, or at least the degree would have any good traction out of state. I'd be going in as a computer science major and was wondering how attending this school versus my old one would affect my chances and how different the education quality would be.
In terns of the ranking of SUNY schools, it is one of the less competitive SUNY. However, many of the professors at SUNY Old Westbury, are have the highest degree in their fields.
In terms of SUNY schools it is one of the easier to obtain admittance. I'd look into Stony Brook University.
We live out of state now, and SUNY have a good reputation. Out of staters are less likely to quibble about individual campuses. The State University of New York is well known. And well regarded all over the would.

Get excellent grades and you can think about graduate school.

I agree, but I didn't see anything about graduate school. If OP just wants a job, focus on keeping GPA above 3.2 (> 3.5 preferable) and actually learning how to program (projects etc.).
Old Westbury is not considered among the stronger SUNYs, in general, and the above poster who suggested Stony Brook is correct. That is widely seen as a very strong science school with a national reputation, at least in some areas. Entry is competitive and many top high schoolers from here (NYC) choose it. But I don't know how the comp sci program is.
All the SUNYs are pretty good. It might not be "prestigious" but you're going to get an above average education.
