But what community are we talking about? The community of people who are actually making a living directing films (which is the community you hope to belong to one day) or the community of wannabes who will never make it as successful commercial film directors (a vastly larger community)?

In any artistic field, the number of wannabes who will never succeed in achieving their dream is far, far larger than the ones who will make it. The wannabes may not see anything wrong with the path they are following, but that is not evidence by itself that the path they are following is a good one.

I didn't say if it's bad or good. As I recall, I suggested you check out Nat'l Film Board of Canada.

But I know a guy who's been working on other people's films and TV shows since he was in college, all his adult life, and he's done very well at it. He has a broad background in music, though, and enjoys the creativity of it. He's also done nature films for public television in the US, with his own sound scores. It all depends on what kind of niche you can carve out for yourself.

BTW, do you have a college degree? Just wondering. It doesn't sound like it, by the type of work experience you've mentioned in the past.

I've only went to film school, and have had a film school diploma. It's hard to find a niche other than directing cause I feel like I am a jack of all trades, master of none, accept for maybe editing and production audio, but directing is my passion.
