ditto Mrs. 14th; the only downside I can think of is that sometimes professors give clearer directions or make minor changes a few days or weeks before an assignment is due. But if you are motivated, go for it! I did a couple assignments a bit in advance because I was taking a short vacation.
I've done it before if I had all the information. But like others said, often teachers will make changes, and that can be very aggravating.
My advice would be to tell the teacher you are doing this, and to clarify the assignment during office hours. In my experience no one goes to office hours, and some teachers honestly seem to get bored, especially if you go to a liberal arts college or community college where teachers don't have research to do, and have mandatory hours.
If not, don't waste your teacher's time. If you want to work ahead and have the time, do it, but be prepared to have to start over.
I had to stay ahead, because I had very reading-intensive and writing-intensive major, and if done according to schedule, it would have been impossible for all assignments for all classes to get done. So I had to work ahead in some to make room to work on others.
My advice to anyone in college: If you do the assignments ahead of time, great! Just do not turn them in until they are actually due! Hold on to them until the due date. This way, if the teacher does make changes you can go in and make the necessary corrections. Also, teachers do not want all of your assignments so early that they will misplace them or forget about them.
Hello. I noticed that most of the college syllabuses that I have the homework is listed for the entire semester. Has anyone gotten motivated enough to do the homework in advanced? I have a week off coming up and I've thought about doing this. If I get really motived I could complete the rest of the semester's work in maybe 8-9 hours. I have the required knowledge (its an english class) to complete all the assignments for the rest of the semester. Would you recommend doing this? *Chances are slim she'll say "ok, you don't have to do xx assignment"*. Any downsides to this?
I try to keep the work 2 weeks ahead, especially near exam weeks. If anything happens, I'm ready anyway.

Don't waste time getting too far ahead. Several times I did assignments in advance, only to have them changed. They either changed the requirements or re assigned them completely. We argued in vain with the instructors that it was unfair to those who chose to stay ahead. At the very least they should have taken either versions, but you can't argue and win with a college instructor.
Just pace the course, don't get behind.
