Hi Everyone. My partner and I have been together for 18 years and have always lived in Southern California (Orange County area). We are looking to relocate to Colorado. I love the springs, as i've visited before and would love to live there, however i've heard it's a pretty conservative town, compared to Denver. Can anyone tell me what the gay community is like in the springs? Would we be better off moving to a different city in Colorado? Any input you all could give me would be much appreciated Thanks so much.

Overall, the city is not very gay friendly. Our lame duck Mayor won't even sign a proclamation to the gay community in support of the city's gay pride parade, not to mention the homophobia stirred up by Focus on the Family (to whom the mayor kowtows).

Still, there is a gay community here that seems to get along just fine. Most of the people here have a live and let live attitude.

Here are some local links that may be of help.

Denver and Boulder are much more accepting.

I lived in Denver in the mid 90's. I had many many gay friends. It is very well received there from all that I saw. If you're looking for an accepting city you should consider it.

My girlfriend and I aren't looking to rub our "gayness" in anyones faces of course, or walk down the street holding hands and making out. We would just like to be sure that we wont have a burning cross in our front yard or eggs thrown at our window for being gay. LOL

As much as I am a critic of the Springs I have to say that I have never had a issue being up there at any of the gay bars or clubs. So even though the city is not the most gay friendly city in the U.S. overall I would say you would not have a problem living in the city. To be honest I would say any major city from Pueblo to Fort Collins is gay friendly in Colorado and you should not have a issue living here. Even most of the trendy mountain towns such as Salida, Aspen, Summit county and Winter Park are extremely gay friendly.

Here are some pictures I took of the gay pride just a few weeks ago in the Springs. It is the second largest pride fest in the state of Colorado.

Yes! And it's not more than a western suburb of COLO SPGS, barely 3-5 miles west, but it's a free spirited town with the unofficial motto of "Keep Manitou Weird." Home of the bed races, fruit cake toss, Mardi Gras and many other wacky fun events.

If you want weird, go to Nederland. They have "Frozen Dead Guys Day", Frozen Dead Guy Shed, the movie "Grandpa's In The Tuff Shed" and coffin races. First weekend in March if you're not busy. Or dead.

Well, it is a separate city, though, for those from out of town.
