Hi, my family will be moving to Colorado in January. I went to school in Grand Junction a while back, but I'm not familiar with the Colorado Springs area, which is where we will be relocating. My husbands job is in Denver so we are looking for areas between Colorado Springs and Denver, we prefer a rural setting as opposed to large city. Could someone please recommend some small towns. Also I have 4 small children, so something safe. Thanks!!

Monument, Palmer Lake, Elizabeth, Larkspur, Black Forest, maybe some parts of Castle Rock or Parker.

If you have a price range you are looking at people will be able to help more. Also, where in Denver area (tech center, or further east).

There are seven of us and from what I can see, rental prices are much higher there than home. We need a 4 bedroom and my job won't start until March so I need as cheap as possible, taking into account that I don't want to live in a "bad" area with my small children.

What kind of commute are you and your husband willing to do and what's your budget?

Given the heavy emphasis towards affordable, you might want to consider heading east.

Absolutely no more than 1300 a month. I won't have to commute as I work from home and my husband doesn't mind a commute, he has to travel with his job so he's accustom to it, but he would like to keep the commute less than an hour and a half.

Monument, Palmer Lake, Larkspur, Castle Rock are the main ones right on the I-25 corridor, but there are some other ones further off the Interstate like Sedalia, Parker, Franktown, Elbert, Perry Park, Elizabeth, Kiowa, and maybe Peyton.

Douglas County, the county between Denver and Colorado Springs, has one of the highest per capita incomes in the whole country, which means it may not be the easiest place to find cheap digs - but you might! If you go further east into Elbert County you might have more luck, but it is also considerably more rural and more isolated. I think Elbert is a nice relatively undiscovered little town - probably won't last, could be the next boom.

That's going to be a hard budget to meet in the area you're talking about. Heading south of Colorado Springs to Fountain would work, Pueblo would be better because it's absolutely dirt cheap. You could also go north of Denver towards Greeley and find something rural as well for that price. But if you want to stay between Denver and Colorado Springs, you're going to have to go look east at communities like Elbert and Kiowa.

If your husband is willing to accept a longer commute, say 2-3 hours, there's a good number of communities that become available for your budget.

Is there a bad area for kids between CS and Denver? Hahaha
How exciting!
All the places mentioned are great. I mean except driving to Denver daily from
anyplace s of Col Springs, sorry, wong.

I think Sedalia is a little 'undiscovered , I stop off there for a beer and food often.
I see a lot of nice people there...family types.

4 bedrooms might be a challenge.

Welcome back home, Lulu.
