We are just getting started, so where comes to mind for a young, active, community oriented, very sports involved family? Would like to be in a positive, friendly community. Also would like to hear from other Midwesterners that have relocated.

When you say sports involved, what does that mean?

Youth sports, 5 and up. In particular soccer. But baseball, wrestling, etc. Coaching opportunities also.

Okay - I wasn't sure if you were talking about youth sports, adults, watching, playing, NFL, MBA etc. Youth sports are all over the area so I don't know that one place stands out more than another. If you want community-oriented, you may prefer something like Ivywild, Old Colorado City, or Widefield.

We're a young family, among many other young families in the Shooks Run Neighborhood downtown. Our kids aren't in the traditional sports, but most kids we know are. I can't speak as much for other parts of town, but this area is definitely a healthy community where neighbors go over to each other's homes for grilling, hanging out, and doing things like neighborhood cleanups together.

Good luck!

Yes, there are a lot of youth sports teams and clubs in COS so there is no shortage of activity, especially football, soccer and baseball. However, there may be some variation in that among differing areas of the city. What I have been seeing over the last few years is that the public sports teams are loosing participants to the private leagues. Participation in all sports, in all seasons, in all areas seems to be dropping, yet the need for volunteer coaches seems to be as high as ever.

For example, U12 girls soccer in the fall used to field 10-12 teams from throughout the city as recently as 3 years ago. This year, they have 3 total; 2 from Cottonwood Park and 1 from Memorial Park.

I have no idea of the fees associated with private leagues, nor if they travel extensively, nor what their coaching requirements are.
