Driving to work was scary today. I'm nervous to see what I find when I go home - heard about downed trees, power outages, etc., in my area. I saw toppled semis and lots of debris going to work and seems the same now as then if not worse. Some if not all school districts canceled buses home - due to State Patrol banning high-profile vehicles on the roads - that's just crazy - I know why they're doing it, but now all those families have to find a way to get kids home.

It's pretty bad here off 8th street. According to wunderground.com, the peak wind gust at the station closest to where I live was 98mph, and I was seeing consistent 60-70mph gusts all morning long (it seems to have calmed down a little in the last hour or so). My yard is full of tree branches and debris, I've got a loose section of fence, and I see one neighbor has their whole back fence down and another has a gate ripped off its hinges. The scariest thing to me was how much my west-facing patio door and windows were deflecting and vibrating in the wind -- I've been keeping my cats in the basement just in case of disaster upstairs.

Very bad here in the central/downtown area, so many big old trees down. Neighbors lost two 100 year old fir trees fortunately they missed the house but took out their fence and wall. Drove around a bit in the Old North End and Divine Redeemer areas and the damage was pretty extensive. We lost power for about three hours due to trees falling into power lines.

as a Colorado kid in the 1960's... I woke up to see my neighbors new 'modular' home completely GONE! Clothes / furniture /insulation spread for miles and stuck in fences.

80 mph 22F and freezing rain today in my 'new moderate climate locale' PNW Columbia Gorge, several semi trucks blown over and off the road here too!

Schools in Portland freaked due to kids stuck on buses... there ARE better options ...
keep the kids at school Or homeschool Kids are very resilient! (much more so than OCD parents)

Howling wind kept me up all night. Had to drive through OCC this morning - lots of downed trees and non-working traffic lights.

But hey, at least it's above freezing.

Part of our fence was blown over. I got about 5 hours of sleep because the wind was so noisy.

I counted 1 dozen overturned semis right around I-25 and S. Academy on my way home, and another 40+ parked right there, some with damage. Lots of other damage - road signs gone, roof shingles gone, store signs gone, fences gone, trees gone, gutters ripped out, siding ripped off. Fascinating and freaky. Glad to be home. Power had obviously been out but is restored, pets are fine, and no major damage at mi casa so far. And boy did the snow disappear!
