We just bought a house in the Springs that we will be moving into this summer and I haven't seen anyone comment about the water. The house will be serviced by CSU. How is the city water? Do many people use filters (for example one that's mounted inline, under a kitchen sink) or is it great straight out of the tap? Is it hard or soft? Any comments appreciated.

Where I'm at now I'm on a well and it tastes delicious compared to most places I've been. However, I do use an under-sink filter for any sediment that makes to through the line up to the kitchen sink.

The water is generally good - first use from mountain springs and reservoirs. But taste I think is hard to judge - depends on what you're used to. I'm on a different water company near the Springs and our water is pretty hard but it doesn't bother me. Most people do not seem to use filters but they're around if you want one. With occasional exception, water quality and taste around here are not big issues but having enough water is the big issue - be prepared for water restrictions sometimes due to drought.

We use filters at our place. There is definitely a distinctive taste to the water, that I personally do not like at all. YYMV

I personally have not noticed a taste to the water or felt a need for a filter.

I don't use a filter & it's fine, tastes good. We don't need a water softener here, but it's not super soft either. We always needed a water softener where I lived before. My only caution would be with new construction &/or brand newly developed neighborhood. We built in a brand new hood & the water tasted HORRIBLE for about 6 months. Everyone kept saying it was the PEX plumbing & the new pipes in the hood. I guess it must have been b/c it went away.

I insisted on having the water testing dept come out & they tested it & it was all fine. Our new house was only 1 mile away from our old house, so I discussed it with the folks doing the testing & found out that the water supply came from the exact same location (substation or whatever, I can't remember what they called it), as it did in our old house. In other words, it was the same water we'd been drinking for 16 years, so it had to be all the new plastic pipes.

I'd agree with most on here. Cos water quality tends to be pretty decent. Cos Utilities has more detailed info on it if you want to get into methods of testing and results of compounds found, etc. It does taste different in town than water from wells far east of town or wells west in the mountains. At times, Cos water does seem overly chlorinated, but overall is good.

I don't use a filter, I think it tastes great. When I moved here from Las Vegas the water quality was something that stood out to me immediately. In Vegas, and other parts of the SW I've lived, the water is extremely hard and just doesn't taste good. Comparatively, I think the water here is fantastic!
