I love tiny houses. I am a single person and i live in Stapleton in Denver in a 3 bedroom townhouse which is too big for me. When i retire in about 7 years i hope tiny houses are still around and more accepted. Americans overspend and many are in debt. I do not need to Keep Up with The Jones. I don't need to impress anyone by owning a huge home. Then again I have never followed the crowd, always did my own thing.

I don’t need to keep up with the Joneses either. Not everyone who has a big house is trying to compete with others. And we aren’t in debt. We happily live in a 3400 sq ft home (2 adults and 2 kids). Why? Because we have a special needs kid who has trouble going places. Whether it is his vision, cerebral palsy or epilepsy giving him issues on that day, he prefers to stay at home. So all of these, “I live for experiences and going places” does not apply to us. We are more homebound than most folks because of our son. So, our home and our large yard is our place for entertainment. Not all people who prefer larger places are doing it to store a bunch of unused junk. I think it’s great if folks want to live the tiny house lifestyle, but it’s not ours. I think it’s pretty judgmental to think a big house means gluttony.

My insurance agency helped develop the first DP2/HO3 home insurance product in the industry specifically for tiny homes. These homes certainly fill a niche, but not something I'd want to live in long-term. To those folks who do, I'm very happy for them.
