Need suggestions for very cheap temporary housing and possibly long term housing for a mom and her child. Will be relocating to the area for a fresh start and may need some caring help until she can get a job when she gets there. Suggestions of safe areas to check and possible places to look for a job? Are there any agencies she can contact for help? Relocating to be close to family but family can't help. She is a mature woman in her late 20's who has had a rough road so far. Thank you.

Department of Human Services would probably be the best place for her to start. Also calling 211 can help point her in the right direction as far as agencies that can help:

Cheap housing is not readily available, so the more she can do ahead of arriving here, the better.

Her family cannot help? Why the move then? She may want to rethink this as housing is getting pretty darn expensive in Colorado. I remember the homeless situation was stunning .

There seem to be a lot of people moving here that are in dire straits.

Agree. Can’t tell you how many people I’ve met that come here thinking their poor situation will miraculously improve in Colorado. Unlikely to happen.

I'm sure there are agencies out there that can help. I have no idea who to connect with them nor what sort of waiting list there may be for their assistance. mtngigi's link is a great starting point.

Please understand that moving to CO is a very desirable thing for may people these days. Some of these people are in very similar situations as those outlined in the OP. As such, there is a huge strain on the system and it is not able to get to everyone in a timely manner. Add to that the ever increasing cost of housing, but subtract that the jobs situation may allow you to find rapid employment, and you may find moving to COS could be a very mixed bag of success at making a fresh start.
