This is a cool video shot from a helicopter of the 2018 Pikes Peak race to the clouds. This unique VW, a total electric all wheel drive racer set a new record.

https://www.tflcar.com/2018/07/i-d-r-pikes-peak/

"All said and done, Romain Dumas finished the 12.42-mile course in a record setting time of 7:57.148, shattering the old record by nearly sixteen seconds.

This project started for Volkswagen late last year, just 9 months before the race. Their goal was to beat the old EV record of 8:57.118 set by Rhys Millen. Thanks to recent advances in electric car technology, the I.D. R was clearly up to the challenge."

It also shows the road up Pikes Peak for those who may have never experienced that climb.

Having driven that road, average 90mph+ on it sounds terrifying to me. That's cool. When I was a kid, my uncle raced in the Hill Climb for several years. I remember going to the event but not being super impressed because as a spectator you'd see a car speed by and had to listen to the rest of its race on the radio to find out what happened - it mainly seemed to be an excuse for people to get together and drink beer. But the concept of the race is pretty neat overall.

Amazing. The pilot and the person filming were just as impressive. I've been on that road several times, but it's still cool to see it from a helicopter.

Oh so true! It's no joke flying a helicopter at that altitude at all let alone with that skill!

This is an interesting video that gives a broader perspective of the drive than the more common drivers point of view shots. Thanks for the link!

The only thing that has me scratching my head is how we only hear the car and not the helicopter in the video. Did they edit the sound?

Of course. No one wants to listen to a helicopter drone for nearly 8 minutes. The in car audio gives a chance to correlate the sound to the speed and sections. Although, IMO, listening to an electric car is similarly unsatisfying.
