Hello all!

Broad question, but I’m basically doing a wide search of different parts for the US that might be good for my family...mostly my 9 year old son who is autistic. We’re going to be making a move soon and desperately need information to help us in our decision.

Can anyone PLEASE give me as much info as possible on autism services around Colorado Springs area? School districts? Speech? OT? ABA? Literally any information will be so helpful.

We also have a 6 year old boy who is not on the spectrum. My husband is in hotel management and a real estate agent. I work in Probate.

I’ll take any insight I can get! Feel free to ask me for more info if it helps. Thank you in advance!

Use our search tool with your key words as we have plenty of existing info in our threads. Some districts in COLO SPGS are better than others with autistic children. IIRC we have a few moms on here who can offer advice.

Thank you...maybe I’m just doing this wrong...But, I’ve tried that and can’t find any current or recent posts concerning this. I was hoping to get some feedback which would provide some more up-to-date information.

Hi! While you're waiting for some knowledgable and experienced parents to chime in, thought I would give you the link to Consultants for Children, Inc. to get you started. I know of the organization through my daughter, who interned there in the first year of her Master's Degree Program in Social Work at Metro State University in Denver. They have a number of locations, including Colorado Springs. Granted, I cannot vouch for them, though my daughter found her internship to be a positive experience. It at least gives you a starting place.

This is an old thread but much of the info is good. IIRC from various postings over the years local district 20 has some resources for you. Suggest give them a call and talk to them.

As someone who works in the education field - I think the experience of families seeking particular services for special needs varies from school building to building let alone district to district and year to year. I can only recommend that if you get serious about a particular location to talk to staff at the school(s) you are considering, visit the schools, etc., until you are satisfied. I think they can give much more specific answers than most anyone else.

@otowi
Yes, agreed. However, it is definitely helpful for someone like myself who is at an information deficit to at least get some feedback on which areas families can give a testimony as to the supports they’ve received. Anything will help give me a starting point.

I just did a simple search and located these resources. I have no personal knowledge of them. Perhaps you already did this. Just feeling helpful and had some time on my hands....
