Hello forum!

My husband has invited the kids and me to accompany him to on a trip to Colorado Springs in January. Business for him, snow for us. We live in Florida and our children have never seen snow! We have 5 days to take it all in. Any recommendations on what to see/where to stay/things to not miss. Thank you in advance!!! Kids are 4 and 6. Thanks very much!

For the kids....The North Pole.
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.
I'll think about other must do's! Of course, just driving west will be fun!
Oh yeah...bring coats and mittens!

Look in the index under KIDS.

Nearest skiing is Monarch Mountain. Plug that term into the search tool and find the info that resides way down in the forum.

The AFA chapel is very interesting; even kids that young will enjoy it.

If you can and weather permits, try to drive up Pikes Peak. Better yet, take the train; the kids will love the ride I'd think.

Garden of the Gods is a kid favorite and another must see.

Those would be three "must sees" of the Colorado Springs area. Other interesting things, maybe not totally for kids are the Manitou Springs village area, the mining museum (especially if they have a family day type thing - very kid oriented). Also, the dinosaur museum up in Woodland Park.

If you want to go sledding/tubing, try Toboggan Hill in Monument. Depending on where you are staying in Colorado Springs, it's about 15-30 mins north on I-25, all freeway, straight shot. Weekends will be crowded (esp. if it snowed recently) but if you go during the weekdays, you'll have it all to yourself, pretty much. Free.

The North Pole is a younger kid's outdoor theme park with rides. Unfortunately their website says they are closed from Dec 25 through mid-May so that won't be good for your January visit.

The closest ski resorts are all 2 hours away roughly. So you'll need to decide if that's worth it to drive to go play in snow or not.

A day trip up to Denver could be fun too. There is an aquarium and natural history museum (if weather is bad). Denver Zoo is beautiful, if weather is nice. Cheyenne Mtn Zoo here in the Springs is literally on the side of a mountain, so it gets very cold up there. Denver Zoo is right in the middle of the city.

For indoor ice skating, try the Sertich Skating Center.

Be prepared...we might not have any snow on the ground when you arrive. So many expect to come in winter to find snow. Just a heads up.
