I was wondering if anyone knew with Monument being so small, if it has access to high speed internet? My husband works from home and needs a fast connection. I also wanted to know if there is a lot for kids to do? I have an 11 year old still at home and am curious about extracurricular activities for him, ie.. litttle league, boy scouts, etc...

Monument is really just a suburb of Colorado Springs. Depending on where you live, it's probably 5-15 minutes to the north end of Co Springs. They'll have the same internet providers as the rest of the Springs (Comcast or Qwest) and I'm sure there's kids' sports activites there. I know there's YMCA basketball up there. Even if they don't have what you want IN Monument, it's really just a few minutes to the Springs.

Yes and yes. Several businesses out of the home up there. Lots of families and things to do for kids. Nice area.

Thanks for the info. We are coming to look around in April. I keep reading how great the schools are in Monument, which is a huge draw for us. Can't wait to see it!

Monument is a town of several thousand people, and it's on the fringes of COS, which encompasses many hundreds of thousands. So, yes, we have cable up here. And recreational activities. We also drive cars to work (as opposed to donkeys) and wear clothing made from cloth (as opposed to fur).

I think the city we live in is small and there's 30,000 so a couple thousand is pretty small. The more and more I read, the more it sounds great to me. And the pictures are just beautiful!

I hope you are prepared for snow. Often. And sometimes a lot more than COS. We have a couple co-workers in our dept. who commute from Monument to central COS and I am amazed how they'll get snow and we won't get any. They have told me sometimes it will snow in June :-)

This is absolutely true! You will see a lot more snow in Monument than in the Springs, and let's not forget about the ever present wind which makes Monument feel much colder as well. "Mild" is definitely NOT a word I would use to describe winters in Monument.

Note that I said "RELATIVELY mild" -- meaning, compared to places in the Midwest and New England. If you don't believe me... try spending a winter in Michigan.
Yes, Monument gets more snow, higher winds and consistently cooler temps than most of COS, but it's not like we're at -20 with ten feet of snow while they're sunny and 65 -- the difference is noticeable, but still minimal.
(Of course, we're happy to allow all those proud mommies in that of ocean of homes down in COS to continue thinking as they do)
After leaving CA, the weather here in Monument and Palmer Lake has been pretty much a non-issue for my wife and I. However, if you're weather-phobic, or unable to cope with snow or cold due to age or physical limitations, you probably should not be moving from SoCal to CO anyways.
