Hello all,

I am looking for areas in Colorado that might be good fits for our family. We have a toddler, I work with people. For both these reasons, we need to be close to other people and can't be totally out in the boonies. A drive of up to 1hr might be acceptable to get to the next bigger town/city.

My husband works remotely and is looking for acreage to start planting vegetables and keep chickens or perhaps later sheep or something along those lines. Not a full-blown farm, but he's been looking at properties with around 5 acres. He prefers a rural life in a small community.

Politically, we are looking for an area with a well-balanced spectrum. Ideally, we'd like to find a place where many different opinions are accepted and appreciated. We also want to avoid redneck areas, crime and gang areas. We need "intelligent" people around us, which doesn't mean that they need a university education, but we want integrity, morals, honesty, and an openness in people to learn and discuss.

We do NOT need a great nightlife, but Yes to culture and daytime and family activities. A selection of good schools.
Probably not so much interested in a suburban life.

From my research so far, Boulder seems like a good area, but it's more expensive than I expected..

Any input is greatly appreciated!!

Evergreen.
But, growing veggies will take some effort.

But, for you, somewhere in Oregon.

Boulder county away from Boulder city limits (Lyons or outside Longmont) might work.

Roxborough Park?

Outsides Durango might work if you only need a small metro.

To try to play to all the criteria, I'd suggest taking a good look at Laporte / Bellvue (northwest of Fort Collins).

wow if you find that kind of place in semi -rural Colorado I want to know !
"We need "intelligent" people around us, which doesn't mean that they need a university education, but we want integrity, morals, honesty, and an openness in people to learn and discuss. "
No red "mericans " no John deer, pick up truck Toby keith , land of the free but open to discuss politically well balanced common sense centrists ? and yet still love horses ? part time vegetarian green party enlightened conservation free range chicken land owners ?
where is this part of Trans-political semi-rural ,evolved and not obsequious to popular culture part of Colorado but with 10 commandment based ethics and a cowboy poet openness ?
I will move there .....

Boulder (city) is neither politically balanced or semi-rural. It is part of civilization.

If you know of this magical place and it's outside of CO, please do share! We're considering many states!
