We've had some squirrely winds roll through Mesa County the last couple days, for today a red flag warning is issued for all of northwest Colorado. The one saving grace is for Saturday and Sunday the high temps will be only in the mid 70's. All yesterday afternoon the clouds looked plenty ominous, but no rain.

Had 20-40mph winds west of Montrose all day yesterday. High winds forecast again today with a Fire Weather Warning. Another miserable day.

HOT is the word for Mesa and Montrose counties. Red Flag Warning in effect.

No moisture at all in several days.
No moisture in the forecast for the next several days.
20-25 m.p.h. winds for the weekend.

We don't need no stinking fires.

Mesa County had some nasty winds overnight--nasty as in 50-60 mph gusts--and still going this morning.

Fires to report-----

BLM land-ten miles north of Rangely--40 acres so far
'Hunter'' fire-20 miles sw of Meeker--1000 acres burnt-30% containment. Was 500 acres yesterday.
''Cross'' fire--30 miles west of Craig--
"Temple" fire-25 miles west of Craig--30% contained

Lightning is the suspected cause.

Speaking of fun, or maybe lack thereof, conditions on I-70 going through eastern Utah is discouraged to semi traffic. Come to think of it, I'm just a ways down at exit 19--and the local truck stop has a BUNCH of parked trucks! Traffic coming eastbound- I would say 8 out of every 10 cars are driving with their lights on.

Some passes here had 90mph gusts today, I had a 68mph gust at my house. Lots of trees down and damage in Montrose.
