Hello,
I'm relocating to Columbia in August and was curious about the neighborhoods of some nice rental homes I've found. I'll be working on Ft. Jackson so I'm not sure how doable these are with traffic. The first house is on 5828 N. Trenholm Road (near St. Andrews), the 2nd on Johnson Ave in the Earlwood/Elmwood neighborhood. Are either of these areas nice/safe/close to shopping?

I know the Rosewood/Shandon area is supposed to be nice but it's a little pricey for what I want (I won't spend more than $1200.)

Thanks for the help!

Do you want to be close to work? If so you can focus on the 29209 zip codes (SE Columbia) and probably save $$$. If you want to be in town and don't mind a little more of a commute Earlewood/Elmwood/Rosewood is a good fit. A third possibility is NE Columbia (29223/29229) which is still convenient to Fort Jackson and has plenty to do there for a suburb.

I have plenty of friends in their 30s that live in the Earlewood area. It is really quite charming, and close enough to everything though the commute would be longer to get to your work. I lived in NE Columbia and really loved it out there- nice area that is close to Sandhills, one of my favorite shopping areas.

5828 N. Trenholm Road is nowhere near St. Andrews, it is in the Forest Acres/Arcadia Lakes area, which is very nice and close to Fort Jackson. Johnson Avenue is in my neighborhood, but honestly not as close to shopping or Fort Jackson as N. Trenholm Road, but probably much less expensive.

P.S. Johnson Avenue is not in Earlewood or Elmwood, it is in the Hyatt Park section of Eau Claire. I live in Keenan Terrace, which is the next neighborhood to its south and Earlewood is the next neighborhood south of me.
