We will be moving to the area in a couple of months, but have never been and don't know much about Columbia. Our kids are 9 and 6 and we would like to live somewhere "kid friendly" with lots of kid's activities and family activities. My hubby will be working on Commerce Drive, but we are willing to live farther away if it means a family-oriented community. Any advice would be appreciated...thanks!

Isn't Commerce Dr in the 29229 zip code?

That's the same area as the 29229 zip which is NE Columbia. It's the most populated area of town and the schools are considered to be good. You'll have plenty of activities to do there and your husband will have an easy commute. You have Lake Carolina, Summit, and a lot of other subdivisions to pick from in a variety of price ranges. Are you looking to rent or buy and how much do you want to spend?

Thanks for the advice! We are looking to rent initially, then eventually buy once we have a feel for the city. Price range would top off around $1100. We currently rent here in our hometown.

You should be able to find something in Lake Carolina for that price with no problem, or the Summit.
