I am thinking about moving into a small two bedroom, one bed apartment. It will be just my boyfriend and me.
Could anyone share there utilities averages with me? I am a student and attempting to figure out how much money to budget. I am going to call the utilities company, but I am curious about everyone else's averages.

My wife and I live in a 3 BR, 1600 sq. ft. home, and our average electric & gas bill is around $125/mo. - spring & fall obviously being the lowest (usually between $70-80) and summer the highest (usually between $150-$200 depending on how hot it is), just paid last month's bill and it was $123.

Water & sewage bill is between $27-$35, but we live in the city, and don't water are lawn much (smaller lot anyway) either.

I would venture to guess your situation should average about $75 for electric & gas and $25 for the water as you obviously won't have any outdoor water needs. It also depends on the way your apartment is set-up, for instance, if someone lives beneath and above you, probably will help you save on air conditioning/heating needs some. Same goes for if your apartment is sandwiched in, i.e. not on the corner of the building w/multiple exterior walls exposed to the outside.

Your water bill will jump around a lot depending on whether or not you're looking to live within the Columbia city limits or in the county but outside the city. It'll be a good bit higher outside the city, because I guess the sewer pipes in the county are made of solid gold or something.
