As it seems we have had a flood recently of announcements of new development both real estate and economic development, I wanted to start this thread (as I am always curious what may be coming next) so people can post any news they have heard on this front.

Not sure if we have one already or not but I wanted to make one just in case!

A big swath of land has been cleared on 378 between I-26 and 12th Street in West Columbia. Also, Duke Energy just chose 500 acres near Lugoff in Kershaw County to position it or expose it or something like that for potential future industrial development.

Anyone have any idea whats going in on land mentioned below that has been cleared on 378 and I-26 and 12th. Seems like a strange place for houses and there seems to already be plenty of vacancy in stripmalls close by to there.

I noticed today as I drove through there that slowly but surely the corridor is putting on a new face.

I've noticed a development on exit 51 on the White Knoll side of I-20. Looks like a gas station. A new elementary school is also going up on Longs Pond on that side as well.

I'm hearing there will be a pretty major announcement in The Vista in the next 30-60 days. Full disclosure I've received bad info before, see post about Starbucks coming to the lobby of NBSC building on Main/Gervais.

Three of the six entities that bid on the Palmetto Compress Warehouse offered to pay full price for the building. The Columbia Development Corporation appears to be in the driver's seat as to which proposal they recommend to the City. Proposals run the gamut from private student housing to lodging to mixed use. That could be the major announcement coming in 30-60 days.

Or... it could be related to the fact that the Adluh building that fronts Gervais has a new DDRC sign out front with notice of a request for exterior changes. Word had it a while back that national companies were interested in that spot.

Or... it could be something else.

Or... like you said, it could be nothing.
