Looking forward to doing some legal racing once I get situated in Columbia. There aren't any here in Oahu, and it has felt as though a piece of me has been missing for 3 years. So where are the best quarter mile drag strips in Columbia or even a bit of a drive? What days are test and tune days?

I can't say about test and tune days but I do know that in Elgin, SC [still the Columbia area] is Palmetto supertrack.

There are drag strips in Orangeburg and Neeses which aren't very far away either and Sumter has a dirt oval track.

But with that said living in Columbia means you are central to the tracks in the upstate and piedmont area all within a 50 to 90min drive

OP, another option (the largest in the "area") would be Zmax up in Charlotte which is part of Charlotte Motor speedway complex. One thing to check into at any of the area tracks is length, i was told awhile back that at least some are only 1/8 mile.

Unfortunately all of the drag strips in the upstate are 1/8 mile. Closest 1/4 in the upstate is in the Charlotte area. Close to the midlands you have Carolina dragway in Jackson, SC(Aiken county). Doesn't Darlington have a 1/4 mile strip also? Haven't visited Darlington, but have visited and raced at Carolina many times. OP check those out.

Columbia doesn't really have much of a car scene, I've found, and that means little in the way of tracks. The only two 1/4 drag strips I know of in the state are at Darlington and one out near Aiken. All the rest are 1/8 mile, and none near Columbia.

If you wanted to drive in a circle, Carolina MotorSports Park up in Kershaw is pretty solid, but there's no drag strip up there.

Sorry for the late reply, currently I run a 2011 Taurus SHO with the EcoBoost and AWD, so 1/8th could be good too. I think I'll end up making the drive to a 1/4 mile track.

Kinda surprised there isn't much of a car scene there.

Their are quite a few 1/8 mile tracks. Is this car modified? Larger turbo, higher boost, etc. I've had a couple of turbo cars to play with.

i'd be curious on how strong a boosted car can run in just the 1/8, seems many i've seen (talking turbo 4's anyway) really come on stronger in the second half in the 1/4. Not that they cant have some stones off the line (our daughter/son in law had a 500hp s2000 which pulled strong, and their friend has a civic that runs 9.76 in the 1/4) but i'd think the 1/8 is really geared to those running 'stangs, etc with v8's.

OP, i've seen plenty of nice cars down here, but have felt the car scene doesnt have the 'priority' we had back home in WI. Not that the cars there were any better, just with a short season if you want to hit the track or the shows you had to go "now". Down here when a toy can be driven year round, seems it just doesnt carry the same weight.

just my .02
