Hi. I'm relocating to Columbia and am looking at a place only a few blocks from Rosewood Elementary School yet, bizarrely, zoned for Brennen ES, which is much further AND located all the way across Garners Ferry Road in another neighborhood. Likewise, we are much closer to Hand Middle School yet zoned for Crayton MS.
Can anyone provide feedback about these schools for me, and if they are comparable? GreatSchools.org gives Rosewood 9 and Brennen 7. Does anyone know why, and whether the 2 points make a big difference?
On the other hand, GreatSchools gives Hand just a 6 and Crayton a 8, but I hear that Hand is "the place to be." Can anyone provide feedback on that?
Also, can anyone tell me the rules about how to get a variance in Richland 1? How hard is it, and what do they require?

For the most part Rosewood/Brennan to Hand/Crayton to Dreher/Flora doesn't really differ all that much. They're by far the 2 best school systems in Richland 1.

Both are great elemenetary schools. It is extremely difficult to get a variance into rosewood or brennen. Are you absolutely sure this house near rosewood is zoned for Brennen? I've not heard of anyone in shandon or rosewood being zoned for that school.
I've found a place that I like that is zoned for Brennen and Crayton. They both seem like good schools so I'm going to just stick with that. Thanks!
