Thankfully govt employees have been told they will be paid at normal wage with time off until further since they budget by the year or 2 years.
On the other hand people I know are still being forced to work or use limited sick time at risk of losing their job, they have people who are sick showing up from Camden to work and being transported to the hospital.
I am a contractor in IT, if I get sick, I get nothing. So at least I can keep going longer if I start to get sick. I fear for a huge segment of our population that doesn't have PTO or ability to work from home. Adults that work in restaurants, Retail and other similar segments have potential to get really screwed in this event. Those businesses have a HUGE chance to fail. I imagine restaurants that aren't able to swerve to take out may just close. I guess the higher end places that depend on alcohol sales won't be able to make it up with takeout.
My kids are teens, so if I had to go the office they could cook and fend for themselves. But for a lot of non-tech people, they will have few options for child care.
Another thing I didn't realize. Our Indian counterparts are also working from home. So they are going thru the same issues. I am curious how different it is across the work for those that can work from home. There is a whole underclass around the world and here that just can't avoid crowds if they still want to earn a wage.
