Hi. I have recently moved to Sumter. I have not located any lesbian friendly establishments in Sumter yet, nor do i expect to find any here. But i am only a 40 min drive to columbia and am willing to take the trip to find a cool lesbian hangout. I am 39 and not too much into the dance/rave club scene, but i love neighborhood pub-type places. i dont mind smoke, and i love to shoot pool. Any suggestions? btw, my friend is visiting me from out of state this weekend and we are staying in a hotel on huger st. i would love to visit some places this weekend, and i want to find a place i can revisit on my own time, too. thanks.

There are a number of gay bars in Columbia, mostly in the Vista area. There is one specifically lesbian bar that is located on Frink Street in Cayce, but it's a hole in the wall from what I've heard. There are a decent number of lesbians that go to Art Bar in the Vista (more on Friday nights I think) and Cabaret in the Five Points area (Saturday night is busier). There is also the Capital Club, H2O, PT's Cabaret and Vista Grill, but all of them have a much larger male clientele. A lot of gay people also go to Blue, which is a Tapas Bar in the Vista. Vista Grill (Assembly at Lady in the Vista) is more of a neighborhood type bar, but they do not have a pool table as it's a restaurant by day. As far as places in general - Wild Hare and Jillians in the Vista have lots of pool tables, etc. and plenty of places in Five Points do, too, but Five Points is more a 20-something crowd while the Vista area has a slightly older crowd. Have fun.

I wonder why in Tapas there will be a lot of lesbians there...whenever I go its pretty much a straight environment...but once there was supposed to be a gay fundraiser...nothing...but at least I know its gay friendly for the most part.

Blue Tapa's is only a gay bar on Thursday, but mostly men. PT's is good on Wednesday's. They have an awesome drag king show. H20 has drag king on Sunday's. But if you want a small bar hangout go to Art Bar, or I also highly recommend Kelly's Pub. Have fun!
