There are rumors of a hotel moving into that area. Hopefully the new natatorium will attract major events from around the Southeast.

Project Scheduled Completion Summer 2013

Exterior shells of the city's new City Service Center, natatorium and a parking deck for the facilities are up, and most of
the interior wall framing of the office building has been put in. Excavators are digging out the Olympic-size competition swimming pool in the natatorium, in preparation for 690,000 gallons of water it will take to fill it.

All 3 buildings (City Service Center at 63,000 sq. ft., Natatorium at 57,000 sq. ft., and a parking deck) are all on schedule. City officials broke ground on the $32.5 million project last September. The City Service Center will house about 120 city employees, the parking garage will accommodate about 370 cars and the 57,000-square foot swimming facility will provide for competitive, recreational and therapeutic swimming year-round.

The natatorium will include an eight-lane, 50-meter Olympic pool, a four-lane 25-meter warm-up, cool-down and therapy pool and a pro shop. The facilities will house the city's finance, tax commissioner, tax assessor, Citizens Service Center, parks and recreation, and elections and registration.
