The developers are going to look at the entire metro and not one particular county. The median income of the Augusta MSA is higher and the population is much larger.

The link is also for Augusta/RC and not Richmond County(not consolidated with the entire county like Columbus)..

I think you need to be careful looking at the different estimates.. The 2010 census median income of Richmond County was higher compared to Columbus.

Metro population is what matters. This is what you fail to realize in why Columbus isn't attracting those same types of businesses. Metro population and stats are what matters.

When Ben Carter and his associates were in Augusta at the press conference, both he and his CEO called Augusta the second largest city.....but they were talking about metro numbers because that is what gives you the real picture of how big an area is...not the city numbers.

Also when certain types of stores looking at income, they are doing so for the whole metro area and they could care less how many poor people are there...what they care about is how many upper income people are there. Also they usually try to find the areas with the highest median income in the metro area...for example the outlet mall in Augusta will be in West Augusta which has a very high median income in that radius.

Well developers must look at Columbus-Auburn-Opelika as one big area.

So because less than 5% of the county not consolidated you can't compare?

And it makes sense that Columbus has a higher median income bc we have more companies that offer white collar jobs.

Grow up guys. Once again this forum has become a pissing match instead of a forum. Who cares what city gas a higher income and what metro is bigger. This is supposed to be a discussion on how to make our respective cities better. From the looks of the recent posts we both have a long way to go.

It doesn't matter much at all to retailers about the city's median income...

As a developer, yes it does, very much so. All part of the due diligence we do before entering a market. Plays a huge factor.
