Inspired by another thread I thought I'd propose a question. What do you think would be the best interstate connection for Columbus to eventually have added? Despite the need for a better interstate connectivity it doesn't seem like an interstate connection here will happen soon, but with continued growth I feel the need will become increasingly hard to ignore.

So far I've heard of the I-14 proposal connecting creating an interstate east to Augusta and possibly west as far as Texas. I've also seen various ideas for extending I-185 southward or even extending it northward past it's connection to 85.

I think the Proposed I-14 giving a solid east west connection is the most needed. I think anyone whose had to drive east out of Columbus and dealt with the frequent 55..45..35..cop will understand the need lol. This would provide us with a good connection to 75 for traveling southward into southern Florida.

The I-14 proposals is probably the best. Any other proposal that would link Columbus to different destinations and make it necessary to travel through would be good as well.

I would like to see I-185 extended to Panama City or Tallahassee. Would be nice to have I-14 connect to Macon. No need for the Macon to Augusta portion IMO. Don't see that route being heavily traveled.

I think one thing that is badly needed is connecting Columbus more directly with I-10 in Florida and I-75. I also think a direct west connection is needed by extending J.R. Allen Pkwy westward to Auburn or better yet Montgomery.

I definitely agree on the I185 comment. A lot of traffic comes through Columbus heading south in the spring and summer. This would like mentioned above provide a good connection to I10 as well.

Tend to agree with you on this. Connecting Macon to points westward via Columbus and beyond makes good sense. Getting shipments out of Savannah heading west would be very beneficial. The portion from Macon to Augusta would be a waste for sure. Not enough traffic or reason IMO. The 4 lane portion from Columbus to Macon has been complete for years. Not sure if they have even done anything on the Macon to Augusta leg, hopefully not.

I always get caught there on the way to Seaside and Destin. So glad it's now 4 lane the entire way. Would be nice to have an interstate though. Everyone from metro Atlanta uses that route just about.

Massive exaggeration. If that were the case, it would be a congested mess, and would be wider than 4 lanes, it would likely be interstate grade. The flow of traffic is not really that heavy and does not merit the creation of an interstate. It's a reasonable amount of people.

You can tell when Springbreak hits and school is out for summer. Traffic picks up big time on that route!
