It's about time!!

Local paving contractor Robinson Paving Co. received the contract after submitting the low bid of just under $34 million.

DOT board member Sam Wellborn said the project has been in the works for about 25 years and he’s happy to finally see it start and pleased with the choice of Robinson to do the work.

“They are an outstanding road building company and I’m very happy and excited that they were the low bidder,” Wellborn said. “I’m sure that they will do an excellent job.”

Jackie Robinson, vice president of Robinson Paving, said the DOT plans for the project to take five years.

“But we hope to do it in four,” Robinson said. “That’s a lot of hoping, but that’s what we’re planning on.”

Robinson said not to expect to see much of any roadwork for the next year or so, while the many utilities that run down the corridor are moved.

The project will expand what is now a two- and three-lane roadway into four 11-foot lanes from Fifth Avenue to Interstate 185 with very little median involved.

Doesn't need widen in my opinion. Never seen it congested with traffic.

I agree. A lot of businesses along there. Definitely going to impact their properties.
