I learnt from wikipedia page and a friend about this.

I know there are country people every where in midwest and closed mind people are a given in midwest but compared all other cities i heard this place is very liberal. (Take Chicago out of the equation)

I want to relocate there and i posted another thread about it but tell me about columbus?

I lived in Indianapolis. it's 70% typical midwest, 15% cosmo, 15%hip.

All i care is, are people over there too conservative and prejudice/racist? Or is it a fun place for diverse people?

It should not make a diff what the people are. You'll have to find your "niche". I don't know if Cbus is more lib or Con and really don't care.

I live in Victorian Village and live a good lifestyle. That's all I care about. If you go looking for trouble you'll find it. If you go looking for a good time you'll find it.

I think it would be hard to quantify if Columbus is the most "open" city in the Midwest, but I do think it is fairly liberal and accepting in general. I have always heard it has one of the largest gay populations per capita in the country (but haven't actually seen it verified), and they are not just in one or two "gay" neighborhoods, but seem to be spread througout the city. There is also one of the fastest growing minority communities in the country (by percentage).

Hey, and women can go topless. You see a lot of boobs at Pride and ComFest.

Try Ann Arbor, Madison, Milwaukee, Yellow Springs, Cleveland, Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, or St. Paul.

Columbus leans heavily Democrat in elections, and has a fairly good international flavor for a Midwestern city. And yes, large hipster population. You definitely wouldn't feel out of place (I don't, and I'm from Oakland/Berkeley).
For true liberal oasis, Yellow Springs (which UK mentioned) is probably the most liberal/radical town in Ohio, but also very small. On the larger scale, Madison probably takes the cake for the Midwest.

Madison for sure, but that's very far from anywhere else "midwest"

Chicago is nearby, as is Milwaukee.

For the size of the city and the Midwest location I would say it is unexpectedly liberal. When we first visited here in 2003 I was very surprised by the diversity of the the population and businesses we found in Columbus.
The NYT did an article on the subject last year: Hello, Columbus - NYTimes.com

Is that a good thing? The city of Detroit has had continuous Democratic mayors since at least 1961.
