Is it me? Or does traffic on the west outerbelt and 71 appear to be getting worse? These past few weeks its taken me at least an hour to get from work downtown to dublin.

I think traffic in general has gradually been getting worse. It's a consequence of growth.

Wow I was thinking the same thing earlier this week, that traffic seems to progressively be getting worse all over the city, especially on the outerbelts.

It's not going to get any better with the start of the Crossroads project.

Is this with the new $200 million project they are starting this week? Something about capping 71 I think, right? Seems like it will be hell for a year, but well worth it when it is finished.

Shoot, if Traveler is right about crossroads and if it does start next week, I think I'll take the south and east outerbelt to get to Port Columbus. I'll be going from Grove City, spending the night before an early flight. Does anyone know what the traffic patterns are going to be?

I've never been to an American city that is easier to get around than Columbus. It is almost never an issue for me. It has spoiled me for many other places that i've visited. This is one issue that columbus and Indy just don't have as young flat cities built in the age of the car. Congestion has real costs and this is something we will avoid in Columbus for a long time with our more efficient regional transportation arrangements. There are far more bottlenecks and congestion issues in cincy and cleveland, despite their more modest growth and decline respectively. Cincinnati is particularly "underroaded" in comparison to other midwest metros on a size and scale comparison.

Luckily we have that infrastructure in place. It makes it easier for all the residents to escape the crippling depression that is living here (temporarily of course, as we both know no one lives here long, anyway).

It actually started last week but what time of day were you deciding to head to CMH?

Wow, the internet really magnifies some people's fears and doubts. I just can't believe those people would be that way in person. These forums are no substitute for real in-person discussion among interested parties. Are there local social or political forums to discuss Columbus' development? If not, organize one and get people talking to each other. It may not be easy, but it would be worth it.
