Columbus, Ohio: Test market of the U.S.A. - CBS News

I have heard in recent years that Columbus is not as much a representation of the US because it's becoming so much more diverse, but apparently that hasn't changed how successful testing is there.

No, but Columbus was considered a good test market because it was somewhat average in how it represented mainstream America. Diverse, but not too diverse, educated, but not overly educated, average income, etc. It no longer has that "average" representation as much as it used to, but as I said, it apparently doesn't matter so much.

Also, 3 of the 4 companies profiled were founded in Columbus. The report made it seem like they were just testing products there. Jeni's, Wendy's and Piada are from Columbus, which has proven itself to be a great small-business incubator.
